AudioBox 1818VSL has a software 26×8 mixer
AudioBox 1818 VSL is the top model in Presonus’ new USB 2.0 audio/MIDI interface series, which takes software/hardware integration to the next level. With your computer and Presonus’ VirtualStudioLive (VSL) software, the AudioBox 1818 VSL offers you the same Fat Channel compression, limiting, semi-parametric EQ and high-pass filter in the StudioLive 16.0.2 series digital mixer, without any audible delay.
With this mixer, you can monitor and record a studio session, a live performance, a DJ rig consisting of a mixer and syth, or a panel meeting – with real-time processing if desired. Moreover, thanks to Presonus’ superior integration between software and hardware, you can do all this simply, without the need for any hardware mixer or outboard effects, with minimal cabling.
1818VSL is a professional sound card in every aspect. 24-bit 96 kHz converters, Class A XMAX™ Everything needed for professional use, including preamps, ADAT optical in/out, S/PDIF in/out, WordClock out, and MIDI I/O, is housed in a highly durable rack-mount chassis, the 1818VSL.
Why is effect and dynamic handling so important when monitoring?
Recording without effects and dynamic processing is like playing a video game blindfolded. Musicians’ performance is very dependent on what they hear from their monitors. The right amount of reverb, EQ and compression gives artists a huge boost in their performance, freeing them from the artificial sonic environment of the studio environment and allowing them to hear themselves in the most natural way. The result is better performance and better recording.
Your DAW programs have hundreds of effects, but processing audio in a DAW can take more time than you think. True, we are talking about milliseconds here, but this time will cause the artist’s ear to audible delay the signal processed from the original sound, which will take a huge hit on the artist’s performance. Such a delay may not be a problem for a band playing on stage and in a natural ambiance, but it is unacceptable for an artist recording in a studio.
Therefore, Presonus engineers have drastically reduced the latency of AudioBox VSL series sound cards. The result is; Real-feeling reverb, EQ and dynamic effects are possible without any audible delay.
On top of that, if you like the effect you hear, you can record it directly to your DAW with the effect!
First quality sound
AudioBox 1818VSL has two mic/instrument combo and 6 mic/line combo inputs on the front panel, +48 V phantom power selectable in two banks, 8 line level outputs, 8 channels ADAT input/output (44.1 or 48 kHz) ) has. A total of 18 input and output channels are available with S/PDIF input/output.
Presonus recognizes how key the quality of the pre-amp is to a good sound recording. The job of the microphone preamp is to increase the microphone signal level to the line signal level so that the signal can be converted from analog to digital. In the process of upscaling the microphone to line level, the microphone voltage is increased approximately 400 times before the signal is converted to digital. It’s the rickety, loud and harsh sound you’ll get from the meager conversion of a cheap preamp. The AudioBox 1818VSL delivers the clean, warm sound you’re looking for with its high-quality preamps.
High Voltage — XMAX preamps are powered over 30V. Ordinary amp designs usually receive 10V to 18V supply. Higher voltage means more headroom, stronger low frequencies and clean high frequencies. As a result, the sound we will get is much fuller and more satisfying.
Discrete — Design that does not use discrete circuit op-amps. Op-amps add noise, coloring, and harshness to the signal. Discrete designs provide very low noise level and transparency.
Class A — When a circuit is operating in class A, it is constantly “on” in the region of the optimum voltage level. Class A designs feature “0” crossover distortion and offer a cleaner, purer and more musical sound than preamps using Class AB op-amps.
The net result of XMAX design is high headroom, low noise, wide dynamic range & frequency width and most importantly, musicality and transparency.
