Fulcrum Acoustic’s unique hi-tech
Scepter series CoActual™ When you first listen to 2-way studio monitors, you will discover nuances that you cannot hear with classically designed speakers. The panoramic sound image, fine details and unique dynamics of the Sceptres will amaze you.
The source of this unique performance is Fulcrum Acoustic’s TQ™ Temporal Equalization Technology™ It is a high-tech coaxial design that works integrated with the 32-bit processor running the .
PreSonus CoActual technology, which is the heart of all Scepter series studio monitors, is a combination of custom-made converters used together with a perfect coaxial design, and powerful and durable DSPs (Digital signal processors) running TQ algorithms.
Speaker manufacturers have long recognized the advantages of a coaxial design with a consistent acoustic center and a symmetrical distribution pattern. However, until now, it has been very expensive to come up with a design that will eliminate the acoustic anomalies of coaxial systems.
To solve the problems in coaxial design, very high DSP power and cleverly designed advanced driver design are required.
This is why coaxial designs were only used in high-end systems with external processing units until now.
Fulcrum Acoustic’s unique high technology has enabled us to overcome all the classical design problems of coaxial systems, enabling us to take advantage of the unique features of coaxial design. Thanks to TQ algorithms and custom drivers created by Fulcrum founder Dave Gunnes, Sceptre CoAxial monitors offer the clarity and consistency only ever found in ultra-high-end systems.
Sceptre series consists of two models. Sceptre S8 CoActual Studio monitor is formed by aligning an 8 inch low/mid driver and a 1 inch horn-loaded high frequency driver to a coaxial unit on the coil axis. The Scepter S6 is the model with a 6.5″ low/mid driver using the same technology. Both models have acoustic ports exiting from the front.
The systems are produced as biamplified (double amplifier design). Each driver is driven by class D power amplifiers with 90W RMS power. Each Sceptre has its own power source and has a standard electrical socket input, on-off switch and LED.
Sceptre monitors have both balanced XLR and TRS-line level inputs.
When we add this custom-built driver, powerful DSPs running custom-designed software, and rich acoustic regulation controls and full monitor protection circuitry to top-notch amplification, the result is a monitor that can be used in any studio and sets a new standard.
Each Sceptre monitor has a powerful DSP to run Fulcrum Acoustic’s TQ algorithms. This processor handles “horn” reflections, correction of linear time and amplitude anomalies, performance shaping, and dynamics and yaw limiting.
The result was a better studio reference monitor than almost any monitor on the market.
The DSP used not only ensures that the coaxial design of the monitor works perfectly, but also offers settings that will enable the user to adjust the monitor to give the best performance according to the area in which it is used. In this way, Scpetre monitors can be used to give the best performance in all studio conditions.
A four-position acoustic field knob controls a quadratic filter centered at 100 Hz. Thanks to the settings of 0, -1.5 dB, -3 dB, and -6 dB, the bass intensity that occurs when the monitor is placed near the wall or near the wall can be avoided.
The high frequency driver setting allows you to control the balance between the tweeter’s output level and the mid/low driver level by adjusting the tweeter’s overall level to be linear (0 dB), +1 dB, -1.5 dB, or -4 dB.
The high pass filter button filters frequencies lower than the selected frequency (60, 80 or 100 Hz) with a slope of -24 dB/octave. This control is especially important when used with sub-bass. In such cases, you need to adjust this setting to the sub-bass crossover frequency. If there is no sub-bass, it should be used in flat position.
