Performance Audio 40i builds on the strengths of the original Performance Audio 40 and delivers an even more enjoyable and convincing sound without affecting the outstanding value for money. Using the principles outlined in the industry-leading Genesis Report, along with some surprisingly original technology (including groundbreaking Solid Complementary Conductors and Anamate plugs), QED has created an interconnection that puts too much distance between itself and its nominal competition. as the original Performance Audio 40 did six years ago.
Robust Complementary Conductor technology
Under the PVC sheath, the braided foil shield, the ferrite sheath, and the foamed polyethylene dielectric are two solid, electrically insulated and oxygen-free copper conductors of different diameters. The use of two completely separate conductors (one copper, one silver plated) to carry the audio signal provides the most complete, least compromised path for the audio information to travel. The resulting sound has greater scale and three-dimensionality than was previously achieved by connecting at this price point, helping QED maintain its reputation as both an innovator and a class leader.
The “Anamate” arrangement of the plugs, in which high-purity copper conductors are gold-plated, gives Performance Audio 40i both the low contact resistance needed to produce exciting sound results and a much longer life than unplated copper alone. The resistance in the signal path is reduced by using high purity copper conductors for the pin section and small contact areas for the return ring. It also prevents eddy currents in the plug body, which improves signal transmission.
Ferrite insulation provides measurable improvements in both the amount of high-frequency signal noise rejected by the cable and the amount of relevant signal information lost. The improved accuracy of high-frequency impulse transmission positively affects timing and dynamics, both wide and low.
